Project Overview
Holi Moli is an annual event at the UNC Charlotte, hosted by the Campus Activities Board, that celebrates the vibrant Indian festival of colors. For the event, I was responsible for creating all promotional materials and T-shirt designs. For this event I researched south asian symbols and used a peacock which is the national bird of India and a rangoli pattern which is traditionally drawn outside people's home during this holiday.
Color is an integral part of the design, which is why I used black in the background to help the colors pop out and make it easy to read. I used bold typography with a dust effect to mimic colors being thrown in the air and paired with a magenta cursive font for a handwritten feel and vibrancy.
T-Shirt Designs
Due to budget constraints, the design was limited to a single ink color so I maximized contrast by utilizing both positive and negative space. I maintained consistent font pairings for the “Holi Moli” title while modifying the typography to work effectively on fabric. The front design includes the event year and university name, accented with rangoli-inspired elements. On the back, I created a large rangoli graphic using AI-generated imagery and paired it with the tagline “Fill the rangoli, spread the color,” providing cultural context for those unfamiliar with the event without overexplaining.
